Membership Options

Serving music’s artisans and craftsmen since 1979, CSA is an educational, non-profit organization dedicated to improving the art and craft of original musical and lyrical composition. CSA offers membership to persons involved in any form of musical expression or appreciation, and emphasizes songwriting as an art form, and how to navigate the business side of  music . CSA provides a supportive atmosphere where new and experienced writers, amateur and professional alike, can meet together in harmony to make music. Programs are open to the public and designed to educate musicians, lyricists and performing artists in:

Song Screening & Critiques

Each CSA meeting provides an opportunity for members to have a song constructively analyzed by peers in a supportive atmosphere. CSA also arranges small regional gatherings called ‘Song Share Sessions’. exclusively for this purpose. CSA holds song screening sessions for songs submitted on CD or other media,  and produces an ongoing series  of compilation CD's of members’ songs, which are promoted nationally, have received airplay,  and have global digital distribution which pay artist royalties.  Out-of-state members may have songs critiqued by mail.

Recording Facilities & Music Services

CSA, through its member network, can provide almost any audio service including sound reinforcement, recording, digital music transcription, sheet music production, private instruction, midi recording and arranging and more.

Contacts & Networking

CSA provides a means for writers and artists, novice or experienced, to meet colleagues, share knowledge and insights, and collaborate with other writers.  Building a network is a must regardless of your field.  Whether you do it by bingo fundraisers or organizing exhibits, it's something that needs to be done.  It's the same with writers. CSA provides a means for writers and artists, novice or experienced, to meet colleagues, share knowledge and insights, and collaborate with other writers. Several CSA collaborations have spawned songs which have met with commercial success.  CSA meetings and workshops provide opportunities to meet and talk with noted industry professionals.

Showcases & Concerts

Showcases are open to the public and designed to give artists a venue for performing their original material for an attentive, listening audience. CSA has helped raise more than $1,000,000 for various local and national causes by producing large and small scale benefit concerts. CSA benefits have helped United Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy, Group Homes, Hospice, WHY,  libraries, nature centers, community centers and more. SONGWRITING RETREAT

CSA holds songwriting retreats, in a beautiful natural setting where meals and lodging are provided.   CSA retreats have been called "Life-Changing" and "Transformative".  Guaranteed to give you a whole new way to look at songwriting.

Monthly Newsletter

CSA has published its newsletter, Connecticut Songsmith, on a monthly basis since 1980. Free classified ads available for members.  Connecticut Songsmith is  published and distributed electronically.

Educational Programs For Schools

CSA, through its member network, provides educational programs for students in elementary grades through college in almost any aspect of music, songwriting, music history, modern music technology, etc.

CSA E-Group

CSA provides a free,  member-only e-group, called CT Songs Cafe,  where members can interact online for collaboration, posting performance schedules,  asking questions,  sharing special accomplishments,  posting photos,  etc.  We also have a Facebook group.
